Perversity of our court system - 18 months for a life, 3 years for consensual sex…

June 28, 2006 7:14 pm

A hit-and-run driver who killed a student at a pelican crossing while speeding has had his jail term doubled to 18 months

Abigail Craen, 20, of Liss, Hampshire, died the day after she was run over by Jaswinder Singh.

Singh, of Ward End, Birmingham, was jailed for 18 months after admitting dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance.

Meanwhile…

A married teacher who had sex with a pupil has been jailed for four years and three months.
Elvira Fairhurst, from Liverpool, began an affair with the boy when he was 14

Hurrah for our court system, eh?

Slowly blinking in the dawn of realisation…

From BBC News

UK politicians are “living on borrowed time” on immigration, a former Labour minister has said.

Frank Field questioned whether current record levels of migration into Britain were “sustainable”.

And he told the BBC News website the UK was in danger of becoming a “global traffic station” for migrant workers.

Well done for noticing, Frank. Shame your colleagues were a little too pre-occupied taking bribes and back-handers to have noticed about 9 years ago…

Shock horror cost of UK Royal Family. (62p)

11:46 am

Information gained from the Freedom of Information act shows us the true shocking costs of our monarchy.

Er, it’s 62p each this year. As is noted: 62p would buy you a ticket for one minute of England’s game against Portugal on Saturday

Looking at all the tourism they generate, it’s not really a lot to get upset about, is it?

American Philanthropy

June 27, 2006 11:29 am

Interesting clip on Radio 4 this morning [click to listen] about Warren Buffett giving his fortune away, and more generally, how much more philanthropic the Americans are, simply because they are allowed to make the choice to donate, rather than having the enforced tax and spend culture of the UK.

Boy George in whinging washed up drug addict shocker…

9:26 am

Here’s something that put a smile on my face - has-been he-she disc jockey cum knob jockey washed up druggie Boy George could have faced 15 years in jail for his latest round of drugs charges, but instead the judge decided to be massively lenient and give him a small fine and a bit of leaf sweeping in the park for 5 days, but instead he “failed to complete a community service requirement because he wanted to do something less humiliating than raking leaves.”
You wouldn’t want to look humiliated now would you, George?
Boy George
No doubt he was disappointed at the lack of penal punishment thus losing the opportunity to play “drop the soap”.
