Enviro-home energy saving claims.

September 7, 2006 11:13 pm

I nipped down to Reading to see, amongst other things, the Enviro Home at the St James Kennet Island development.

I noticed a couple of inconsistencies and figures I didn’t recognise. This isn’t in any way meant to badmouth or sound skeptical about solar and environmental stuff, I’m all for it. The trouble is that when random and artificially high figures are bandied about, and then rubbished by BBC’s Rogue Traders special on Solar Salesmen, it’s not really going to help the industry.

Anyway, I’m going to be lazy and let people make some comments, then I’ll come back in a couple of days and integrate the facts and figures.

As you walk into the house, you are greeted by this:

List of claims

Ignoring the wayward apostrophe for a moment, inside the house, it’s…

Solar PV 30 to 40 percent

This sounds a bit high for PV. Unless they plan on using 1 lightblub. I mean, bulb.

And now we’re up to 40 percent!

Solar PV 40 percent

Now, what about that hot water?

It provides 13% of the hot water…

13% hot water tiles

but provides a 25% gas saving. Not sure I can reconcile those figures. Anyone?

Solar hot water 25 percent

Then there’s the spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Light Blubs
Bad spelling

Hang on, you can’t add up percentages like that.

Example.

I save 50% of my electricity bill and 50% of my gas bill. Wow, I’ve saved 100% - so why do I keep getting bills?

As for the spelling, typography and punctuation, dire, isn’t it. The worst place I know for that is the Secret Hills Centre in Craven Arms - I was fuming when I left the place. Expensive, shallow and full of errors.

I wouldn’t buy more than greengroceries
From a man who’s too free with apostrophies.

So, does it mean that these homes are not as fab as they are billed as being? Or that someone is publicising them incorrectly. I’d love to know just how much energy they are saving, as opposed to how much energy they say they are saving.
Obviously all steps in the right direction are great but it seems a shame if they are making crazy claims - just telling it like it is would do.

Kennet Island, St George and Hallmark are all try to play a fast one on the residents of Kennet Island.
I would never have brought my property if I knew I could not park there without the constant fear of being clamped by Hallmark outside my own property.
We all pay the maintenance fee, so we should decide how we want our parking resistrictions to run.
Yes we should have resident parking permits and allotted parking areas, but lets give the non-residents fear of parking not the residents who pay for this service.
If we all seperately do a blog with Kennet Island, St.George and Hallmark in the tital, with a dramatic sentance for example;
Kennet Island ripping residents off.
Kennet Island Lied about parking for residents.
Kennet Island residents cannot park outside their own home.
Kennet Island residents abused by parking restrictions.
Do not buy in Kennet Island, because you cannot park there.
The more sperate blogs we have and if we respond to each others blogs, we can flood Google with bad responses for the management of Kennet Island. We will post to all and any forums we can find, we will get to property publications and local new papers. This will cause a big dent in house sales and reputation for Kennet Island.
The residents want this parking inforcement stopped on the 18th of Jan 2009, or we will flood google with comments of disgusted and unhappy residents of Kennet island. We must respond by doing this now and warn Kennet Island that this will get to the News and will ruin the reputation of the development and halt sales.
Goto;https://www.blogger.com and register to create a blog now.
Everyone put a shortcut to their own blogs on each others blog, this with cause more traffic and high google ratings for your blogs.
Kennet Island would be very silly to ignor this, because this will affect their reputation and future sales. This will be forwarded to kennet Island, the more time they waste the bigger this blog community grows.
Blog now and stop Kennet Island from abusing our community with this parking rubbish.
