The Satanic Verses Affair

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I saw a great 90-minute special on the recent history of the Nazi-style book-burning of The Satanic Verses.

Watch it quick – it’s only on iplayer for one week (I think).

A lesson from history I hope never to be repeated again. This is covered very well in the excellent book The Fallout – How a guilty liberal lost his innocence

The problem with arguing about stuff which may be uncomfortable to “people of the left”, is that whenever you try to argue a fact about religion, immigration or events like this, the default retort from the left is “read it in The Daily Mail, did you?”. Andrew Anthony is a Guardian journalist – kind of kills off that argument! Here’s a good example.

I can tell by your blog that you are depressed, struggling with homosexuality and perhaps on drugs…

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I received a post to my inbox on Stumbleupon from ademm

Dear Son,

I can tell by your blog that you are depressed, struggling with homosexuality and perhaps on drugs. Have you ever considered Jesus as your Saviour? I would like to establish a dialogue with you on the topics of philosophy, theology, existentialism and Jesus. Perhaps you feel that if Jesus was alive today he wouldn’t be up on currant fashions and trends or that he wouldn’t be able to express himself in the current hip-hop lingo the way you young hipsters can. But I want you to know that Jesus is “Now;” Jesus is “Wow!” Jesus spoke in parables which was the jive-talk of the day two thousand years ago. He spoke poetically which is like rap. If Jesus were alive today he would be a “Cooldude” like you or me. He would wear designer jeans rather than “huffing” designer drugs. Let us, you and I dig Jesus together and surely he will help you defeat your naughty thoughts. And if you’re feeling down and tempted remember the words and ponder the meaning of Deuteronomy 23:1

“No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.”

May the Lord show you the straight path,
Adam

Now, who’s going to help me formulate a suitable response? :)

But wait! It turns out I’m not his only one – Adam has been emailing another!

Hate-filled unelected Muslim peer Lord Ahmed jailed for just 12 weeks for killing father of 2

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

A little bit of good news in a morning filled with sadness for David Cameron and the incident with the crashing plane at Amsterdam Schipol airport.

Lord Ahmed has been jailed for killing a father of two. How long did he get? Just 12 weeks.
The judge described his texting as “prolonged, deliberate, repeated and highly dangerous”
As many have noted, he’ll be out before he unpacks his toothbrush

By the way, this is the same Lord Nazir Ahmed who said Geert Wilders was “a danger” - the irony!

UPDATE: Shameless Lord Ahmed (who is to appeal his sentence) had his solicitor on BBC Radio 4’s PM this evening. Here’s the interview:

Catholic, Protestant, Black, White….

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Have a listen to this – it’s only a minute long, a short segment of the Price of Peace programme on Radio Four, Sunday

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Now, have a listen again, but this time, swap the words Catholic and Protestant, for black, and white.

This is 2008 – not surprising at all.

Scouts’ forest chapel torn down after 70 years because it might offend non-Christians

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

The evil that men do….

A scouts’ woodland chapel has been demolished – its wooden pews and rudimentary cross and altar removed. In its place is a campfire circle.

The change has been imposed by the Scout Association, which believes the chapel excludes non-Christian Scouts.

The basic open-air structure in woodland surrounding Belchamps Scout Centre in Hockley, Essex, was built between the wars by volunteers.

They used old telegraph poles for pews and built a basic altar and cross. Visiting groups of Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts, have used it for generations.

Centre manager Nigel Ruse, 42, said: “The updating of the chapel was done to turn it into a place of worship for all faiths and not to exclude any one from Scouting.

“This is a case of taking Scouting-forward.”

Last year, it was revealed that the Scout Association banned helpers from putting suncream on children unless they already had sunburn. This was to done to prevent allegations of child abuse.

I’m not a Christian, so I shouldn’t care. But when I see examples of prime twattishness such as this, I really do wonder if the end is nigh…
