Pat Condell - Islam is not a victim

July 20, 2008 10:42 pm

Youtube’s #4 most subscribed user worldwide (#1 in the comedian category) has released another biting, pithy and educated blast of sense into a mad world:

It seems quite a few people agree with him, too. The video has been out for 6 hours at time of writing, and already it is:

Youtube down - Pakistan hijacks address range, poisons DNS

February 24, 2008 8:10 pm

It’s not just you - youtube is definitely down!

I did some research - two days ago, Pakistan ordered all its ISPs to block access to Youtube.

Two days later, and the whole world has lost access to Youtube, as noted on Slashdot and the BBC and is being discussed on Wikipedia.

According to Stegonews, this is a malicious action by Pakistan to poison the Youtube DNS range. According to a news announcement on the OpenDNS server:

Youtube.com is down right now because Pakistan Telecom has decided to (accidentally probably) hijack their IP address space which means that nobody in the world can reach Youtube. This isn’t an OpenDNS issue. Just letting you all know.

Accidentally?! I’m not a great conspiracy theorist, but you don’t just poison DNS “accidentally”, two days after the same company cut a whole countries access off to Youtube because of “unislamic material”. I think this has the potential to grow into quite an incident.

But then, as one blog notes ,

it’s just a temporary outage on a goddamn internet site, not the end of the fucking world.

True, but if it turns out to be a deliberate act, then we all need to start worrying.

NOTE: If you still do not have access and can edit your hosts file (and know how to), adding the line
208.65.153.238 www.youtube.com
provides a fix.

9/11 The Conspiracy Files - BBC

June 3, 2007 9:19 pm

It wasn’t so long ago that I blogged about Maddox’s great Titanic Conspiracy video, had a chuckle, and moved on.

Then last week, I saw that the BBC had to issue a rebuttal because they’d been inundated with mentals suggested the BBC was in on the plot, and they’ve built this whole bizarre story on the basis that the newsreader said “apparently” instead of “we’ve been told” about some building that fell down 20 minutes later. Interesting reading the comments in that blog to see just how much psychiatric help people need.

I now see WHY the black helicopter brigade are picking on the BBC - I saw a repeat on BBC Four just now of a show broadcast earlier this year as part of The Conspiracy Files season about the 9/11 attack on the USA.
I’m sure there’s a copy on Youtube, but they did a nice job on debunking most of the conspiracies - in particular, one of the theories goes that Flight 93 was shot down. The whole conspiracy is based on the fact that some guy used Google Maps to measure the distance from one side of a lake to the other, came up with 6 miles - even though the map measured the road ROUND the lake, not the flight path distance of a mile!
Here’s a direct link to that particular one, plus all the others in the programme.

This has all been hashed out and thrashed out so many times, but here Alex Jones from Infowars on a rant

Here’s a Youtube Video which attempts to debunk popular mechanic’s debunking of loose change

Here’s the editor of Popular Mechanics talking about their debunking of the theories.

Here’s the original conspiracy video, Loose change (See also Wikipedia article)

And here’s a nice hatchet job on the second edition of the above..
Screw Loose Change

Anyway, if you’re able to read this far without needing someone to wipe your drool (Hawking excluded) and shine the tinfoil on your head, you can probably draw your own conclusion - if in doubt, get Occam’s Razor out.

Of evangelists, fundamentalism, Christianity and Scientology

May 16, 2007 10:26 am

Been a bit of a week for religious lunacy.

Earlier this week, evangelist Jerry Falwell was, er, “called home” as the BBC reports. By all accounts, the world’s problems lay on the shoulders of gay people and women who don’t want to burden the world with an unwanted child. Here’s a quote about the attacks of 911

The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad.

Then there was “The Panorama Incident”. Having been followed round all week, been shown horrible videos and had his questions constantly evaded and avoided, the film maker flips his lid a bit. Good for him!

And here’s the entire programme
Also, checkout the Panorama site.

So, if you were ever wondering about the truth behind Scientology, who better to cover the issue than South Park?

Then there’s the poor girl who had to fight in court to be allowed to travel to the UK for an abortion, simply because Catholocism is so cruel that is would have forced this girl to give birth to a foetus with half a head which would have died almost immediately upon birth.

But if you want TRUE religious nuttyness, look no further than Westboro Baptist Church as investigated recently by Louis Theroux on BBC2

ADDED: 25/May/2007. Hear of Pat Condell? Check out his Youtube channel. Every video is worth a watch, particularly the one on religion in the UK.
And here’s his rebuttal when the “Peace Commision” in Berkley, California went nuts over his right to free speech…
