TV Chef James Martin delights in endangering cyclists

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8258247.stm

TV chef James Martin has apologised for causing a group of cyclists “sheer terror” as he test drove a sports car.
Martin, presenter of BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen, wrote in the Mail on Sunday that he had intentionally forced them into a hedge as he turned a corner.
It was the best thing he had “ever seen in my rear-view mirror”, he said.

Not much I can say on this really, other than what a total cock! He should read this blog: Bianchista writes:

To James Martin….
As per your remarks in your now infamous column, i should just like you to look at the below picture of me. Look at it and tell me you still find your comments were appropriate and funny.
A driver pulled out on me recklessly, and as a result i pretty much lost all of my top row of teeth, I had a broken nose, and badly bruised legs and arms.
You see… whilst it may be funny for you to ’scare us’ by beeping your horn or driving at a close vicinity, it wasnt so funny for me to hit the tarmac, it wasnt so funny to be unable to touch solid food and be in considerable pain, and it actually wasnt that funny when i had to see my mum and watch her cry.
So Mr Martin, I should honestly hope that no-one would ever purposefully endanger your children, as a driver did to me. They, and yourself….. might just fail to see the funny side then.

I'm pleased I spotted this post because I believe James Martin did mean it. A few weeks ago I saw a documentary that Martin was taking part in.
He was the feature of the film. It showed him buying a very expensive Italian sports car for around £200,000. His idea was to compete in the Mila Mila Italian classic car race over two or three days. I must admit I've never particularly liked him because I've watched him as a chef grow more arrogant as he became more successful over the last few years.

In one scene whilst he was getting his car prepared, he threw a strop with one of the mechanics...I was shocked at his outburst. But then I realised, that this was simply an over paid lightweight chef that had become just too big for his increasingly shrinking boots.

    Get well soon Bianchista!
  • I dunno. Just because he wrote it doesn't mean he did it. He was probably at least exaggerating. You could argue that it was a bad taste joke, or not funny, or whatever, but it's *fun* to write (and read) strongly worded articles about groups who annoy us. Plenty of people find cyclists annoying -- I was driving in London today and they get in front of your car at the lights and then slow you down and wobble all over the road in front of you. So I'd take it in the spirit of "bloody cyclists! I'd like to run them off the road!" Nobody *means* it when they say stuff like that, but it feels good to say it.
  • Rob, stop and think about what you're saying.
If he didn't know do it, why the hell would he write an article which has been universally condemned, even by Daily Mail readers and motoring groups for making motorists look like cocks?
Why would he make something up which would deliberately make people hate him and put his career at risk? The James Martin Facebook "hate group" now has double the number of the "fan" group!

If he did it, he's a cock. If he didn't do it, he's a cock for writing about it.
Either way, he needs a lesson, like a phone call from the hospital to say his wife and child are badly injured in hospital due to a motorist being a cock.

I'd like to see him defend his actions then :)
